You'll Know When You're Here

You'll Know When You're Here

A Poem by Sarah Cristobal
"

The title poem. This is intended to encompass the idea of the book.

"

A demanding climb

Rigorous treading through rock and sage

Rivulets of loose dirt

To wash you back down

Steep ascent

All is laid out

Blanket of valley

Where no one cares

That’s when it hits you

When you are ‘here’

Silence

So deafening and pure

You’ll know when you hear it

That you clawed up from this dirt

Irreverent spitting dust

From a parched tongue

Eye the sun

Nestled here

Pressed between stone and sky

Remember your origin

This is the opening poem, so it needs to catch the readers attention and give them the feeling for the book. Any and all feedback is welcome, please don't be gentle!! I'm always looking for ways to improve my writing and to find out how it appears to the reader vs. how it appears to me.

The above lines were my favorite. A parched tongue won't tell no lies. Thank you dear Sarah for sharing the amazing poetry.

I imagined a tough climb up the slopes of a mountain, dislodging dirt as my my feet moved further and watching it fall below. Pausing on the rock face in the eye of the sun. Exhilarating, looking around and drinking up the quietness. Quite an achievement to reach the summit of a mountain where the air is thinner and the view must be spectacular. Your lines took me there and I benefitted from some lovely imagery. Thank you for sharing.
