The Rite of Tears

The Rite of Tears

A Chapter by Friska

Nearly tripping over her own feet Anastasia stumbled over toward Michele, not believing her own eyes. Was it a possible lack of sleep creating illusions? Was Jeff creating an illusion for her in an attempt to make her happy? If that were the case she might just kill him. Michelle could only stand there and smile, tears forming in the corners of her eyes as well as she moved to embrace her long lost wife. They simply held onto one and another for a few minutes that seemed to pass by like hours. The two guards watched in some awe, never having seen their feared and respected leader break down with emotion before their very eyes. Jeff simply stood back and smiled, knowing that not much else could go wrong at this point now that the two were together again, who would have thought that one person could change someone’s life so drastically.

The two kept their grip tight on each other until finally Michelle spoke, “Hey

there” her tone was soft and soothing sort of like a mother would to

a newborn child.

Anastasia, nearly brought to full on crying just by the sound of her sweet

voice.

The moment lasted for a bit longer until Jeff coughed gently, reminding Anastasia that she was out in the open, crying and clutching onto her wife. Anastasia wiped her eyes and stood up straight, Michelle doing the same. The guards still stood nearly unmoved, it seems their emotions were a bit out of sorts since they had taken time to train and steel themselves so as to not have emotional ties with anyone, being guards for the cities leader had quite a danger to it, if they had family it would be quite the possibility that that family could be in danger of being attacked so as to get the guards to rebel against Ana. As Ana turned hastily around and started walking back into the run down building Michelle followed behind her like an obedient dog, not wanting to lose her wife a second time.

After a short walk up a few flights of stairs Ana opened a door to a large suite of a room which had large windows able to give a visual of the entire span of the city, an exception was made by the few skyscrapers that blocked vision in some areas but this never bothered Anastasia, her soldiers were everywhere in the city in order to keep the balance. Michelle looked around the room, there was a clock on the wall and a beautiful black leather couch situated in the middle of the room, this was nothing like an office room so it seems that this was either Ana’s main headquarters or this was a resting room, possible only for close friends, without a bed it clearly wasn’t a bedroom. A lone lamp sat in the corner, plugged in but with the lights on the ceiling it did little to light what was already lit. The carpet on the floor was a generic office building gray which it seems Ana couldn’t change, however this was not the same for the walls which were colored in full wall artwork which seemed to be made by one of Ana and Michelle’s daughters named Lorlei who proved to be an exceptional artist along with other certain unusual skills which she found out that she had only a few months being in their home.

Ana was just looking out the window toward the forest where Michelle had just been about a day ago, presumed dead yet just being asleep, it seems that Ana is still having trouble believing that this is happening, to reassure her Michelle walked over to her wife, gently wrapping her arms around her to show that she is really there and that none of this is fake or a trick being used by Jeff. Ana responded with a quick kiss to Michelle’s cheek causing her to smile and let go, now wanting to ask questions about what had happened.

“So, it seems you’ve been busy with the city, what happened though?”

Michelle inquired, knowing that before she went into her coma the city was in perfect workings yet why was it in disarray?

Ana looked out the window before gesturing Michelle to the couch, once they were both sitting down Ana decided to explain herself, “You really want to know” she said with a hint of regret in her eyes and sadness in her tone.

Michelle simply nodded and waited for Ana to speak. With a sigh Ana lifted her head and met eyes with her wife.

“After you went into your coma and I thought you were dead I just broke down, the city for some odd reason started to crumble and after seeing that you liked to take walks in the city so often I decided to honor your death by taking control and leading the city so that it wouldn’t completely shut down or destroy itself”

“You did all that for me?” At this moment tears started to well up in Michelle’s eyes, all the missed time starting to catch up with her. Her wife had been so devastated by her supposed passing that she had single handedly stopped an entire cry from falling apart just as a way of remembering her, it was absolutely astonishing.

“Please don’t cry” Ana said, with a soft voice like Michelle’s crying was going to cause her to do the same.

Michelle was only able to sputter out a few words before latching onto her lover, crying into her shoulder for around ten minutes before being reduced to sniffles and slight hiccups.

Only a few moments later Ana forced Michelle to sleep, even though it reminded the both of them of quite a bad and recent memory, sleep was still required and Ana was left to dwell in her own thoughts.
