Fate's Call

Fate's Call

A Chapter by Friska

The words were confusing but before she had time to think about it she was brought to her feet by the soldier. The soldier had a SWAT-like helmet and with the visor up as well as his mouth covered with a cloth, the rest of his armor was blue colored and seemed to be worn, like it had aged through time. Michelle saw a nameplate on the soldier’s chest which said “Mertens” it wasn’t a code name but a last name, and a familiar one at that, on closer inspection Michelle could see slight brown hair coming from the helmet as well as dark brown eyes.

The soldier had a grip on her arm and was very keen on not allowing her to escape as she had very gently tried to pull her arm away once though she really just wanted some space. She was so confused that even if she had a question to ask she wouldn’t be able to say anything as she was still so astonished. She eventually brought up a thought process in her head and was able to lightly mutter the words “who are you?” As she asked this the soldier looked down at her and sighed, he seemed worried but relieved.

“I’m Jeff, Jeff Mertens” he told her with a stern but sort of happy sounding voice.

Michelle’s blue eyes widened, she did know this soldier, “Jeff!? I remember you,

it’s me, Michelle!

Jeff sighed and looked down at Michelle, “I know who you are trust me but what

surprises me is how you’re here” he had quite a grim tone in his voice.

“What do you mean you’re surprised to see me here, I’ve always been here but why

was there all that dust in the house? And where is Ana?”

He seemed scared, unsure of how to tell her what had happened, “Michelle… you’ve

been in that house for a few years, we thought you were dead but I guess you were just in a coma, what baffles me is how you survived”

Michelle’s mind nearly exploded. Alive for years inside that house but in a coma? How had she survived for so long and what would have happened if they burned down the house or buried her? Why was the house just abandoned? It was too much information to take and it clearly showed as Michelle nearly fainted, only being stopped when Jeff gently gripped her arm

“Don’t worry” he said in a soft and relaxed tone, “You’ll get your answers and we’ll find out what happened and why you’re still alive after all this time”

Michelle nodded with a small whimper coming from her throat

“Good” Jeff looked down at the ground then toward a distant city, away from the house, “Now, take a deep breath, and let’s go see Anastasia”
