Winter Sleep (Old Age).

Winter Sleep (Old Age).

A Poem by Marie

Summer flowers are fading
in the garden of my life.

Petals now are falling,
with the breeze they duck and dive.

Feelings are uneasy and
memories haunt the air.

Autumn brings in chilly winds,
leaves scattered everywhere.

The burnished bronze sun now has set
on my life's horizon.

My ship is anchored in the harbour
and I've hung up my visor!

I sit in my chair of memories
and old times I recall.

Places visited, things I did,

but old friends most of all.

My heart aches with sadness
for days now long gone by.

Winter beckons to me
as I sit and think... I sigh!

Thank you for reading and for your very kind review, dear poet...
Very heartfelt lines my dear Marie.
'Places visited, things I did,
but old friends most of all.
These lines are such a treasure to the heart. They keep the heart beating and feeling the love. A life well lived with hope and service. Good attitude always makes for good memories. There is a time for action and then there are long hours for reflection. You keep on adding so many delightful poems here. It brings our feelings alive. It shows us the reality and the courage to handle ourselves till the very end and beyond, infact there is no end its a passage onto the other phase as you put out so heroically . What a spiritual treat and thankyou so very much as we wait for the next my dear..

This is so well penned dear poet. This time of year, as things come to a wrap most are given to reflection you’ve done it well. Yes, a sense of melancholy but the honesty is a breath of fresh air.

I like this. More and more lately my body and my spirit are letting me know that winter has definitely arrived. Nicely rhymed and worded. ~Jim

this was SAD! i teared up, thinking how i'd lose someone like you, thinking how the world will lose another poet.
we may only know each other through this silly little site, but i felt so connected with you. and this verse reminded me of my late mother, how she used to say in her final years 'im ready to go.'
but maybe there is some wisdom to all this. that we accept fate and embrace the earth. that we understand life has a beginning, middle and an end. that we recognize that our time here is short. still, the tragedy of life hurts all the same.
at the same time, this was beautifully written: 'I sit in my chair of memories' is such a wonderful expression, one i hope will be immortalised.
