Your poetry and that image and so much said in few words. All the description runs in the mind. It was just enough and so much more. How dramatic and tragedy Marie!. You wrote powerful trhree lines but its effect runs deep in the mind long after. Indeed its a wasteful life when you choose alcohol over the passionate devoted love of your dear one.

Thank you so very much for reading and for your kind comment, dear Aarti...
I admit to enjoying a glass of red wine.. why not, I could smoke! However, have had friends, good and wonderful people, end up with their bodies wracked - minds included. Adults are allowed to make choices for themselves.. it's what being 'grown up' means. But i've wondered if one gave someone a gun, or held him or her over the rails at a busy station or - over the edge of a high bridge for a week- would the smoker understand how near and yet.. so damned dangerous. As always you prepare the path for our thoughts to meander over, Marie..

The use of alcohol is not the problem, it is the abuse of alcohol which causes big problems. Yes, adults are free to make their own choice but when those choices are made without regard for their loved ones who live with them, then it's surely time to rethink. Too much alcohol kills love, there is not doubt about that, because it affects the way a person behaves and in truth, their home could be falling down and they wouldn't see it because their focus is simply on their next drink, not on their home or loved ones. As always, it is a great joy to read your so kind comments, dear Emma. I am MOST grateful to you and wish you a very wonderful, relaxed and pleasant evening to enjoy, Emma...THANK YOU! again...
The life...explain in three lines...if there is no passion in love... even it is for lifelong it can be just an addiction or obsession..
Beautifully cleverly expressed...
You words remind us to always in move not to quit...

i like the clever play on the word 'wasted.' i am long over my party days and alcohol is no longer my poison. my drug of choice is now is a pit of reading and a hot coffee.

Wow Marie, you did a good job. I love how such short words can decribe someones lives. A wasted life hiding behind a bottle afraid of love, very real and deep.
Thank you for sharing this poam with us.'
