The train moves away, as if in slow motion
My heart beats beside yours amidst the emotion
Crowds line the platform, yet… I feel so alone
The wind blowing chilly, my heart feels like stone
I stand in a daze, lost in our reveries
recalling our love, flowing with memories
Your train rounds the bend, and you’re out of sight
Alone, I stand frozen in this heartless, cruel night
I head for our home. Each step like a mile
Tears flow down my cheeks while to strangers I smile
The door to our home! Forlorn, I reach for our key
Step into loneliness, I cry, as desolation taunts me
In the warmth of the fire, I begin to feel better
Reach into my handbag, and take out your letter
Loving words bring comfort and strength to my mind
Wrap themselves around me, and peace, at last, I find
How we reach out for small signs to comfort us when we miss someone. The touch of a letter or photo a piece of clothing or furniture all may be comforting. I feel the missing and longing in this poem. It is touching and somewhat sad. Carefully and nicely written

Thank you for kindly reading and for your very heartwarming review, dear Soren...
Back in 1970, this was I.
Patty left from a visit to Carbondale....
and as the train was pulling out...I was stopped by the crossing gates and had to watch the train go by me...
I had hours of a good cry...
Funny how situations hit us...and then how seeing those same landmarks bring the emotion back....and in this case your poem.
Beautifully mournful piece.

I feel both privileged and honoured to read your so sad words. Tears are only rain to make love grow! Thank you for reading and for your so kind comment, dear J...
This poem beautifully expresses feelings of sadness and longing. The imagery, like the cold night and the warmth of home, really helps convey the emotions. To make it even stronger. Overall, it's a heartfelt piece!,.
