A derelict
house stands forlorn
once a home now a ruin.
Ivy climbs its walls so bare.
It's only occupant; grim despair.
Once a home full of love,
filled with blessings from above.
Three lovely children, Mum and Dad.
Time changed everything we had!
Beautiful memories live within.
Silently in evening, shadows creep in
like ghosts unseen they fade away
as dawn gives birth to a brand new day.
Mom and Dad in their grave now lie.
Their children miss them, weep and cry.
Miss the old house, the love that lived within,
the laughter of children, and the merry din.
I went to my father's grave recently and the feeling that the man who hugged you when you were born is now buried underground... It's heartbreaking. While I used to think about what color shirt I should buy for Father's Day, I'm now thinking about what flower I should put on his grave. "Time changed everything we had!" Life is always full of changes, what we have will always change, feelings, faces, maybe even names, cities, and lands. Everything in life is always changing and our lives are shaped with it.
It's obvious that you wrote this with great maturity in your life experience. I hope you always have good changes in your life.
There is indeed something sad about abandoned old houses. One wonders about those who lived there, what their lives were like, where they might be now, if anywhere. The poem is a somber comment on the impermanence of all things.

A lovely poem of neglect. The metaphor so nicely woven in how people too are at times and with age fall to age. Memories remain. So nicely composed with such a sense of nostalgia and bitter sweetness
