In The Heat of The Night.

In The Heat of The Night.

A Poem by Marie

In the stillness of night
the longing for you grips me
with long steel fingers.

I breathe in the scent of you
which in my mind still lingers.

I feel your loving hand gently touch my hair.
It feels so real, as if your hand is there.

Your feather touch upon my skin
stokes the flames of love in the fire within

filling my body with sweet desire,
the flames leap high as in a funeral pyre,

completely engulfing me,
but you are with me only in memory.

Alone I toss and turn in my bed, so blue
with no words to express how very much I miss you!

The emptieness of loss filled with memories of fondness leads to a bittersweet feeling. I hear this in this poem irregular rhyme in the beginning gives a sense of reality and then the ensuing rhyme cements the reader's attention holding them until the end, that again ends without rhyme adding an emphasis to the loss and its lack of resolution. A real feeling that many of us can relate to. Nicely done my friend

Thank you for kindly reading D. and for your very encouraging comment also...
This piece is the voice of one widowed, who finds memories of the lost mate especially in the night, in seemingly sensual ways. The desire for past love is very strong, and in the last verses we feel the speaker'a pain almost literally.

Loss is one of the most heart-breaking emotions there is. I've felt it in the past. If you've lost someone recently, you have my condolences. Feelings like that last years.
