Death Has No Favourites.

Death Has No Favourites.

A Poem by Marie

Death has no favorites when

he knocks on your door.

Young, old, male, female

Coloured, white, rich or poor.

Times may be good or bad

happy or sad.

In health or disease

Married or single,

if you please.

Expected or not

accident, suicide or plot.

In bed or out

with a smile or a pout.

Fat or thin

in grace or in sin.

Ugly or beauty

Death does his duty.

The timing is his and

you cannot linger,

When he knocks on your door

with his skeletal finger!

A simple but effective reminder, as regards the nature of death. We could all succumb, at any time - whenever the grim reaper chooses to strike! With a bit of dark humour, along the way; this is an interesting and thoughtful read. You can also reach me by email. My email address is [email protected]

Marie,
You know, I read where Mark Twain said "I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

Your premise here is correct, but I like the Roman emperor/philosopher Marcus Aurelius's take on death. He said it is merely a natural process, and therefore not to be feared. Of course, religion has done its best to make sure we do fear it.

The book of Hebrews says "those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death." It seems to me the answer is to not live our life in slavery. We are all going to die as you so apply said in your poem and the conditions or circumstances most often will be unknown to us. But we don't have to live as a slave in fear. Rather we should live in freedom to life. Each of us has to find that freedom or accept the freedom that is presented to us. Personally I have accepted that freedom by way of my faith. I enjoyed your work and glad I came by to read what you have done. -carl

This is very true, it has no favorites, just like karma, it doesn't favor anyone over the other, you get what you served here.
That's why we need to enjoy and live life to the fullest in a way that we can say, well I did it well, when its our time,..

Thanks for sharing such thought provoking poem.

Me too, Amy. I even lived to tell the tale, dear friend. 🌸🌸🌸
We worry so much when nothing is certain in life, don't we? Everyone wants a happy ending, but that's often not even possible. Some people get married and have children so as not to die alone, some prepare their own endings. Without even being sure of what happens after death. Sometimes babies die, sometimes cruel people live long enough to cause others die. Thank you Marie, it's a topic that will make you think enough to write paragraphs.

Yes indeed it is the one thing that all living have to experience without exception. It is nature's great leveler. I would say it is nature's justice and her greatest sense of mercy. All this written in rhym in quite short lines. Loved it Marie
