Memories
glint like purest gold.
They beckon and call me like a dear friend
and give me so much to remember.
Recollections never end.
From childhood through to teenage years,
growing from one phase to another.
Then, an adult leaving home and comfort zone
to become a wife, lover and mother.
Years have flown by and now I am old.
I look back on old times more precious than gold
and wonder with awe how the years did unfold.
Though I live in the present, to old memories I hold.
Life is a beautiful journey each day. Some days are sweet, some maybe soar or at times bored. But the special moments in life always becomes the beautiful memories of our life. Some of those moments maybe be good or maybe be bad but definitely worth keeping them with us for life long. Because we've lived a life in those moments. I would rather say them the Pearl's of our life! You've described them really well Marie!

As long as one doesn't live in the past, an album of good memories is a wonderful tool for dealing with difficult times. As these times we are currently experiencing are exceedingly difficult, you are fortunate to have so many comforters.

I agree, dear J. B... Thank you for reading and for your very blessed comment, dear friend...
This poem is one I identify with exactly.
Years have flown by but I watch them go as I sit with my friends, those memories.

We must pity those who are robbed of all their memories by illness, what purpose then to continue living. My ma in law, who lives with us, has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's so we will now have to watch as her 80+ year life lived thus far is slowly deleted from her mind...so sad.
Hope you are well Marie, enjoyed the read

I am so very sorry to read about your beloved Mum-in-law, bless her. Alzheimer's is so very nasty and so very difficult for family who watch their loved one deteriorate mentally and physically as a result. Both my parents had it towards the end of their lifetime and didn't recognise me at all. They were happy in their own world, but my heart was broken. The amazing thing is that my Mom would recognise my husband, ask him who he married and tell him he had beautiful children, but she didn't know me at all, until two weeks before she crossed over to Spirit, when I visited her she said "Is that you, Marie"? after I said "Hello Mam!" My Dad didn't know me either, but would wave to my youngest daughter and chat with her, but I have always believed, because she looked so much like me and wore her hair long as I did at her age, he thought it was me. You and your dear family and Mum-in-law will be in my thoughts and prayers, dear Gee. I am well, thank you for asking. Take very good care of you and keep well. Bless you all always, dear friend...
I love how your focus in this poem is on positive memories "glint like purest gold" From beginning to end this poem reflects joy, fondness, treasures. This keeps the theme simple and contributes to nostalgia that I can identify with. We have a choice to remember happieness or sadness and since we only go through live once why waste time on being unhappy. A full life of memories presented here all of which I can identify with as well. Very nice Marie.

There are times I feel like the parties over. All the nights out I had with friends, the music, the conversations the next day about what we did or saw, the people around me in the bar I didn't even know. It does feel like youth is so fleeting. Memories are all we have sometimes which is a bit sad, but at least we have them.

Youth is indeed fleeting and wasted on the young. We only seems to realize how precious youth is when we enter the Autumn years of life, and our precious youth is gone forever. Yes, then we have the treasured memories. I am not appreciative of your very kind review and for taking time to read the poem, dear friend.
