First Love.

First Love.

A Poem by Marie

The moon shone down on earth that night

bathed the world in its pale silver light.

Lit up the beach where two lovers lay

In a little love nest just across the bay.

Magic wove two beating hearts together

promising love that would last forever.

They made sweet love, then went back to the car

tomorrow, this young soldier was leaving for war.

Many tears were shed between the two

like diamonds glistening on morning dew.
Spirits down cast as they waved goodbye

turning in home she breathed a sigh.

Nine months later he came home in a casket

their newly born son lay asleep in his basket.

From now on life would be so much harder

bringing up baby without his loving father.

Marie this poem tells a full story in just a few stanzas. It is a romantic and heartrending at the same time. Filled with beautiful imagery and well chosen words it leaves the reader with feelings of sorrow over the horrors of war, and the loss of those who stay behind. The last stanza is very well composed with the timing of the return of the soldier and the nicely rhymed wording of basket and casket, finishing the story. Very well composed and well thought out the sign of a masterful piece.

Oh my heart, it felt so good at the start then hit me deeper in the heart in the end.
I loved this write because this often happens. Shows us how quick time can go by and how the cycle of life goes, father died and baby born to carry on his father's name.
Thanks for sharing,
-Amy

Marie! Only you knows the art to touch the readers heart ❤. This was such a beautiful story of two loving hearts 💞 A patriotic soldier leading into a war for his country but leaving behind his memories of love and loneliness for his family at last. I'm very pleased but a little sad as well after reading your First love!
