I Am Kerry.

I Am Kerry.

A Poem by Marie

I am Kerry! Proudly I stand

in the South West corner of dear Mother Ireland.

Famous in song and story down through the years.

History has been kind to me. I stand tall among my peers.

The Monks of old administered to my people with much love,

and made their home on my islands, bringing blessings from above.

My fertile soil has fed my children big and small.

They’ve grown up a noble race, proudly standing tall.

Tourists come to visit and admire my beaches wide,

bask in the sun, build sand castles and surf on the incoming tide.

Trek my nature trails, admiring fauna and flora.

Soaking up my spirituality to enhance their sacred aura.

On the field of sport my sons and daughters nobly play

to bring me honour and renown, to bring Sam down my way!

My subjects have made much progress, each town is thriving and busy,

shops, factories, schools, colleges, theatres, all humming hives of activity.

Each year I attract new industry to keep my children off the dole.

Each one has a part to play, a very special role.

All my people love me, many fought to keep my freedom, while others gave their lives to protect me, because they love ‘The Kingdom’.

I am envious of Kerry's incredible long history and more. Of course you are proud--I would be, too. I had to research your use of "SAM" and now know it's "Samuel Maguire Cup". While I don't care much for sports, I'd dearly love to visit your beautiful land. Your words do Kerry a great honour.

I love the way you bring your beautiful city to life, as a woman and symbol of freedom.... It so breathtaking when i visited....the only thing that frightened me were the narrow roads with bushes on either side and driving on the left... and there are many songs written about the cliffs and the stunning scenery around it....You speak of this special place with pride, and you should.."I stand tall among my peers"....
Lovely Marie

Love the approach to this poem with the land talking. This gives the poem a sense of ah and grandeur that it would not have elsewise. Nicely cited the different points it gives a sense of patriotism and pride in the land. Lovely
