Evening's Lengthening Shadows.

Evening's Lengthening Shadows.

A Poem by Marie

In the shadows of evening
you stand
like a haunted house on
the cliffs of my mind.
Birds are silent,
sleep beckons them
to their cosy nests.
In the gloom
I sit alone
while thoughts of you
crowd my mind.
A blanket of ‘missing you’
envelops me.
My memories keep me warm
as night turns to day
and the world wakes
to live again.

Wow. Even the birds deserted the poet, leaving them with just memories for company. The presence of a beloved seems powerfully haunting and I loved imagery of the haunted house on the cliff. But above all, its the deep reverie in which the night turned to day that I loved the most. This is a truly outstanding poem and I loved it, dear Marie!

Thank you for reading and for your very kind review, dear poet...
Artful! I like the use of the words and images here - Haunted house, cliffs, crowd, blanket.. delicately written poem. Memories, those sweet moments spent with someone are like trophies to cherish. To look back, savor them and be immersed is only way to feel alive again. Thanks for sharing, Marie.
