Words may not break bones, but they can certainly do terrible damage to one's feelings--just like a bullet, as you infer. Hearing a "I'm sorry" may or may not undo the destruction, especially if the offender continues the verbal attacks. I know someone who uses cruel words and insults as weapons and suspect you do, too. I try to let them ricochet off me, but that's often very hard to do. Excellent writing, as always.

This is an old poem which I composed for an Indian Online Writing Group on which I used to be editor before I became ill. I gave it up afterwards as I wasn't well enough at the time to keep going. I have since left Facebook, but the poem continues to live on my USB flash drive. I agree with everything you so rightly say, Sam. With a very grateful heart, I thank you, dear friend...
A most graphic image that conveys the pain a word can give. Some say emotional pain is far greater than physical and you convey this well in this well written poem. Worse yet is pain given and never acknowledged by the perpetrator. Loved your unexpected rhyme pattern and how it drew me along. Very nicely written

I so agree with you, that pain given and left unacknowledged by the offender is the worst kind of pain and usually, the person who is hurt blames themselves for receiving the painful, cutting, chilling words. I am so happy you like the poem, dear Soren. I so greatly appreciate your great kindness in reading, my dear friend. Wishing you a very lovely evening, pleasant, peaceful and relaxed - enjoy!
