Mum and Dad so young on their Wedding Day
With Mum tenderly holding her Bridal Bouquet
I have a few of my own too...of mum and dad on their wedding day...they were in their twenties....Now mum is old and dad has passed away....So this touched such a chord in me.
Dear Marie, this is a masterpiece. The rhyme, meter, flow, the sentiments that touch the heart. This poem inspires many many poems. You've done wonders with the subject. I cannot say enough for this work.
Personally, I sometimes slip into that bygone world, trapped in those yellowing, fading pictures. They come alive in our minds, don't they? Its a forlorn journey, with time, places and we people we loved but may never see again.

You're most welcome, dear Marie. It's a joy to read your poetry.
Old pictures are captured memories that cannot be replaced; a history recorded and a soft voice calling, remember when? I enjoyed the read.

I believe old pictures are treasures that should be forever safeguarded. In my experience, the keeper passes on and those IRREPLACEABLE gems might not end up in the right hands. (I'll not get into my experiences with that)
I followed along and felt what you felt, viewing the eternally young faces of yesteryear. That old tattered and worn photo album is more precious than gold. Tis a beautiful and sensitive moment you create.

You're most welcome, dear Marie. It's a joy to read your poetry.
Photo albums have so much meaning and are irreplaceable treasures. They are time capsules that allow us to walk through the past even if for a few moments. I have treasured photos of my grandparents who have left this earth years ago and family friends that have departed as well and even a few friends that have made their journey skyward.
That album that is tatter and torn is worth its weight in platinum and diamonds. Priceless really if we are to be honest.
I love the way you wrote this poem. It is well worded and it makes it seem as if it isn’t important at first until it’s opened.

'We have our own album, which brings us great pleasure
But it’s the old photo album that’s my greatest treasure
It’s just an old photo album battered and worn
It’s images faded and one or two torn'
No matter the fading, somehow of it faded completely you would have remembered staring, gazing, learning the figures, the places, emotions and all. Love lives in a photo album. Insurance, where when possible - God willing, can pay for new furniture, BUT nothing (unless duplicated) can replace the cinders of once loved albums.
'Just an old photo album battered and worn
With images faded and one or two torn'
Not 'just' , never could be. I know.

I am so pleased you both like and enjoyed reading it. Wishing you a very nice, relaxed and blessed Monday to enjoy...
I'm loving this poetry that has two living stories in picture frames, one that's been battered but the memories is still alive as the faces of the figures in them, the memory does more than infect me with its sweetness, their irreplaceable place, their warmth, the other being the picture of the family you made, even though loving they are, I wonder what is it about the first picture frame that is more dear to the poet, is it because they were surrounded with warmth and love of their elders when they were very vulnerable, as they now stand as a figure to be relied upon while they reminisce the times when they used to be carefree...I loved this sweet remembrance sung in the poem, the effortless rhymes touching every line and your words making the imagery evident as their sensations! A beautiful delight of a poem there, Marie!

I am deeply indebted to you for the amazing and wonderful review which you have so kindly given to my very humble little poem. The poem was created out of the fact that I have no photograph of both my maternal and paternal Grandparents, they had died before I came along, so I never met them in this lifetime, but oh, how I wish I had. So, the poem came about because I had an old treasured photo album with their photo's in it. I have some of my parents later in life, but not when they were young. As the years go by, we treasure the old photographs we have, they are the memories of yesteryear, dear P.V. So pleased you like the poem, dear poetess and thank you again for your great kindness in reading it and for your very kind comment. Gratitude with brightest blessings your way, dear P.V...
