Feeling abandoned and
lonely the hungry night air nips my ears His bite is hard and gripping My eyes fill up with tears I haven't ate since yesterday when I found a juicy bone Nor had a sip of water You see... I have no home I had a loving family They were really kind and nice The children loved me very much Taught me how to hunt some mice But now the children are grown up and I am old and grey Nobody seems to care for me so, I have run away If you should see me on the road struggling my path to plod Perhaps, you might take me in? I'll be a good, loving, obedient dog!
My dog passed away a little less than a year ago. I miss him. This poem made me teary-eyed but it also made me smile. I hate the thought of a poor animal alone on the street and I like to believe this one in the poem was taken in at the end. Good job.

Of course, you miss him, bless you both. The poem isn't about any particular little dog, Alira. I wrote it because during Covid when many were unable to go out, they got dogs and cats to keep them company, but as soon as Covid ended, they gave their devoted and loving cats and dogs back to the animal shelters where they got them. It was so sad! Thank you so very much for reading and I am so sorry the poem made you miss your little dog and feel sad for his loss, please forgive me. Thank you for your kind comment also, Alina...

I can so relate and commend you Marie, yes a dog or any pet is for life, part of the family and must be loved and treated accordingly! Coincidently a few months ago, I found myself alone at home here and I needed a companion so I noticed an advert on facebook, a local council dog kennel had a beautiful Staffy crossbreed dog that nobody wanted, they told me this dog ( a female ) had been used by its previous unscrupulous owner for breeding/selling pups and after 4ys he/she abandoned this dog on the streets ( got their use out of her ) And now this lovely dog was going to be euthanasised if no one would taker her.
But now Luna has her forever home with me and we are truly together soulmates! 🐕🦺 = 🥰

Wonderful to read a story with a very happy ending, dear Tom...

I love my pets so much. Reading this brought on much sadness for all those sad little dogs and cats out there in need of love and care. Thank you for this beautiful reminder.

Our canine friends are so loyal. I don’t understand how anyone can abandon a pet. It is the utmost cruelty. They grieve . In fact I do believe they grieve more than some in our own species do. Heartfelt write Marie. I have Solo. She is an old lady now, but she loves me unconditionally. A lovely poem.

I cannot fathom anybody abandoning a pet either, but sadly it occurs. Yes, I so agree 110% that the darling animals grieve and more than the human species does or understands. Solo (what a beautiful name) sounds like a darling and our animal friends are the only ones who love us unconditionally. I wrote this poem shortly after 'normality' resumed after Covid when ssssssssssooooooo many pets were given back when people returned to work. Heartbreaking! Thank you so very much again, Chris. Wishing you a very nice, blessed and beautiful evening to enjoy with Solo and a loving gentle pat and hug for Solo...
They are blessing for us and we are their shelter! I too have a little one but she has so much tantrum :) I too wrote a poem for her. You've written it with so much care and love. Beautiful poem, dear Marie

Ahhh, I've been a stray myself. Homeless and in my case, crazy (schizophrenia). Surely all pets find a home eventually!
