5. ObstaclesA Chapter by SaraI watched as he left, my eyes
slowly moving along with him. He very briefly locked eyes with mine before
exiting the cafeteria. I looked over at his table and saw the girl starring at
me with another look of hatred. I looked down at my feet, biting my lip. First
day with wolves and I’m already the most hated. “Don’t worry about them,” Erik
said, snapping me out of my thoughts. “They’re just another bump in the road.”
I nodded in agreement, but something in the back of my head told me that wasn’t
true. That something was silenced by the sound of the bell and we all took our
time standing up. “See ya’ll, later!” Rachel said, smiling and leaving with
Joss. Chloe, Erik, and I walked to our next class together. As we got to the
door, someone attempted to shove past me. I looked up and saw who it was "
Dylan. “Oh, uh…” he said, scratching his head. “Go ahead.” He nodded towards
the door and I walked in, noting the low growls of Chloe and Erik. I sat down
in my seat and looked back over at Dylan, who had been stopped by the teacher. The
bell rang and everyone got quiet. “All right, class!” the teacher said, looking
around. “This is Dylan. He’s new to Heron Creek, so I want everyone to make him
feel welcome.” There were a few people who said hello; others just didn’t care.
He looked over at me and smiled a bit, which caused me to smile back. “Now due to our limited seating, you’ll
have to pair up with…” the teacher looked around, searching around with his
index finger. “The lovely Miss Sophia!” He pointed at me " which made my smile
fade a bit but grow slightly at the same time. s Dylan’s eyes grew wide
for a second as the teacher mentioned Sophie’s name. He thought about what Liza
had said; he either didn’t talk to Sophie again, or Malcolm would hear about
it. He bit his lip and began walking towards his seat. He hoped it didn’t apply
when it was impossible to obey that rule. s I
watched as he sat next to me and exhaled loudly. He looked at me, a puzzled but
amused expression on his face. “Seems like we keep running into each other,
huh?” I said, attempting a meaningful smile. He chuckled and leaned forward on
the table. “I guess so,” he said, smirking a little, “But is that a good or bad
thing in your opinion?” He looked over at me, his face now containing a more
serious look. I shrugged and sighed. “In all honesty,” I said somewhat
hesitantly “I actually kind of enjoyed our first talk.” I looked towards his
face, waiting for the disgusted reaction I had grown accustom to. Instead, he
just looked at me and nodded in agreement. I was again surprised by his
reaction; what was with this wolf? Is he bothering you, Soph? I was jolted
out of my thoughts by Chloe’s voice. I turned around and made eye contact with
her, shaking my head. She bit her lip and looked over at Erik, who was looking
towards me as well. I’m fine, guys, I
thought to them. We’re just talking…
Erik grumbled and leaned back in his chair. I sighed and turned back to Dylan.
“So I take it you haven’t told your friends of our chat this morning?” he
asked, smirking yet again. I sighed and smiled a little, nodding. “Yeah, I
uh…don’t think they’d take it to their liking.” © 2011 Sara |
