2. ArrivalA Chapter by SaraAs
the school day ended, most of the school had already flocked outside. People
were bustling to their cars, talking to friends, or executing other various
activities. Erik and I always walked home together; we lived in the same neighborhood
along with Joss, but he never joined us. As we walked down the sidewalk, Erik
stopped only a few feet from the entrance of our street. He looked as if he had
seen a ghost walk right in front of him. Instead of charging forward, he turned
and locked his eyes on a car coming down the street. I followed his gaze to the
car and froze as well. They had not been kidding… ssssssss As
soon as the smell hit his nose, Dylan looked up and turned his head towards the
sidewalk. He caught a glimpse as the car went past " two vampires. He growled
and clenched his fists, looking forward again. Malcolm had been clear on the
rules: Stay on your guard, but do not touch them unless they touch you first.
He sighed and looked through the mirror as the car drove farther away from the
two. They were only specs in the distance now…hopefully that was all they would
ever be. ssssssss I
watched as two more cars passed by, each with the same scent. There had been at least four wolves in
all, each with their own glare at us. Erik growled behind me and I turned,
seeing his infuriated face. “Calm down…” I said, pushing him playfully. He
looked down at me and his face softened a bit. He sighed and whipped out his
phone, no doubt telling the others what was going to be waiting for them at
school tomorrow. I started to walk again, and he caught up no problem. His
phone buzzed several times within seconds. “I guess they didn’t take it well…”
he said as he took out his phone yet again. I smiled and shook my head, turning
the corner into our neighborhood. “They probably wouldn’t.” I said and pulled
my jacket closer to me as a breeze blew across my face. We continued to walk along in silence;
the only noise his fingers tapping away on his phone. We went our separate ways
when I reached my house and I waved a goodbye as usual. I
took my first step on the sidewalk towards my house and stopped rigid
-something was not right. I stared at my house, looking through every window,
listening to every sound. All I heard were voices, my parents and two others. I
slowly walked forward and as soon as I reached the door, the smell hit me. I
slowly reached towards the knob and opened the door, walking in and shutting it
quietly behind me. “Mom? I’m home!” I yelled, a cautious edge to my tone.
“We’re in here, Sophie,” my dad answered. “Come in here. There’s someone we
want you to meet.” I slowly crept towards the kitchen and turned the corner.
There were two unknown faces sitting at our table. The guy was my age, short black hair and an obvious love for
the color black " and he was a wolf. The other was a woman, probably the kid’s
mom but lacking the Lycan gene. “Sophie!” My mom smiled at me and gestured to
our guests. “This is Ms. Warren and her son Malcolm. They just moved her from
Selenia.” Ms. Warren nodded at me and smiled warmly, but Malcolm did not
gesture at all. “We just dropped by to say hello and that we have every
intention of keeping the peace here.” Ms. Warren said, taking another sip of
coffee. My mom nodded and smiled again. “Well, that was very nice of you.
Seeing as our children will be going to the same school.” My heart stopped cold
and I tried not to look like I was being strangled. © 2011 Sara |
