Brothers Till The End.

Brothers Till The End.

A Poem by Sean K. Gall

Brothers till the end
No matter how it began
We said we'd always be there
For each other, No matter what got us scared
We made a promise
All of us that day
No matter what we may say
Do any of you remember what it was
Well you know what, It's starting to bug me, Cuz
We're falling apart
We're not going to finish what we start
We're no longer going to be able to be there
Cuz now we're starting to stare
At each other like we don't even know each other
Or even worse it's like we were never even friends
It hurts me to say
That none of us are keeping our promise
We can't even be honest
With Each other
We're starting to fight
We're getting new friends and picking a side
Now before our friendship ends
Try to remember how it began
We were so little, but it didn't matter
No, Cuz it was the best days of our life
Now I want you to think
Think long and hard about this
Can you tell me? What was our Promise?.......

I read this poem and it hit home. I grew up with some friends from the time we were in Kindergarten through high school. We never made a pact to stay together but that was more of an unspoken understanding with us. After high school life has a way of seemingly tearing us apart as we try to find our way. After 36 years and what seems like a lifetime of experiences, we have finally come full circle and are back together with what seems to be a deeper understanding of our unspoken bond. There may come a day that you will be writing a poem that will be drawn from this same experience. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that your poem spoke to me.
The interesting thing to me about finding your poem is this:
When you were younger, you were hanging out on North First Avenue with Greg and Chase Weiss. You actually came to my house and I met you as we all visited in my backyard. Last week I was standing in line at Jack-in-the- Box in Oakdale behind a young man with a vaguely familiar face...it was you. I knew the face but not the name until I saw a photo of you on Greg's "facebook" page. So now the young boy who I once briefly met has influenced me with his poetry. I think these kind of experiences are so cool. Anyway, thanks for the poem and keep working at your gift. I appreciate it and understand it. I'm an artist myself.
