The King, The Witch and the Iowan ZimmersA Poem by Freder Fredersen (aka Grady)This was a fun piece to write. It was first published in Grendel Mom issue 2378 March of this year. The people at the zine have been cool about my posting it because they are a strictly print zine. Enjoy! While the King's grateful guests were beginning their dessert course- Pandemonium broke out in a New York bistro,
a seven year old girl swallowed a quarter
and Jimmy and Ruth Zimmer partook of
the kinkiest (married) sex in Iowan history.
All the king wanted was greater flexibility in power management
and whiter shinier teeth, but when he glared into the witch's globe
he saw an eternity of carnal knowledge and lewd conduct.
His mind was lost until the strawberry shortcake arrived.
"May everyone find satisfaction!" the king toasted hardily.
The queen cried quietly in her tea because he had not brought
her to a full boil in years. She was a prisoner in his castle.
He was a prisoner in her stare. All parties concerned were
not concerned enough to give the matter more than a few tears.
All the laughter and tasty treats in the kingdom could not brace
the king for what the witches globe revealed next. His wife
in the muscular naked arms of another man. He spit a strawberry
across the table. The witch grinned like a demon in a burn ward.
While the King's grateful guests were finishing up their dessert -
The queen was beheaded in the dungeon,
the king was dusting off his hungry sword
and a peasant named Timaus was being arrested
and dragged to the castle to be laid to rest with his secret love.
The witch laughed as the globe showed her-
A man being trampled on a vinyl floor,
a child being resuscitated in her parent's home,
the Zimmer couple puffing post coital cigarettes
and a picture of she and the king making love.
