There Will be No Laughter

There Will be No Laughter

A Poem by Freder Fredersen (aka Grady)
"

I dunno! Just happened.

"

“there will be no laughter!”

the cynical jester mockingly said,

“because even humor offends hypocrites
on fine looking thrones of fool’s gold,
lips preaching lies,

because shadows only hide deeds, not intents,
who stand naked before a staring mass
on unknown stages,

because evil is not in a name, but is brandished
by empowered hands,

because tears receive higher ratings

and blot vision and view more easily”

“there will be no laughter!”

the statuesque politician retorted,

“because no matter how ridiculous,

these are not laughing matters;

these tragedies,

because people laughing are less likely to fear,

and fear is the only catalyst in long supply;

we’ve used the rest

because if you take life too lightly you’re brave,

then terror and alarmism seems silly,

because unburdened minds think for themselves,

and thinking is a terrible habit unless you hold office”

then all laughed, as the jester danced,

and the politician banged his gavel furiously

"the jester doffed his cap and bells
and stood the mocking court before . . ."

Now, who wrote that, I have so many bits and pieces of poems floating around in this brain. The title is "The Fool's Prayer". If I remember the name of the poet I'll let you know. :)

and then, what Kortas said, this is very good.
