Where I'm FromA Poem by Katrina Crago.A writing assignment for EnglishWhere I’m From
I am from warm
summer days and cool autumn nights From the sounds
of dogs barking and sirens From the
confusion of a five-year-old Smack I am from the
place of being the first-born daughter From a deep rooted
Catholic faith From that comes
over protectiveness and paranoia No Freedom I am from the
smell of fast food From late nights
and sleep full morning From that Daddy
came home late again But I know he
loves, even if he never shows it I am from acceptance From an easy
life I am from swing
sets All a lie I am really from
a complex mind From a world no
one understands From the year of
ninety-six My best five
years until everything fell apart. From a small
mobile home I am from racism
From a world of
a little brother I do my best to
protect him from this. I am from trying
to find myself From trying my
best to please everyone From knowing
that will never happen Why do I even
try? © 2012 Katrina Crago. |
