Sertaline Dream

Sertaline Dream

A Poem by Fraser Murray
"

Little thing I thought up based on the medication that I've (finally) started taking. Feels good, man.

"
There was a goal, there was a motive, though I never saw its face, see I suppose I needed something just to help me keep the pace, I've long forgotten what it's like to be the leader in any race, and the last 6 years I've done nothing but chase and chase and chase.

So I got tablets (not the touch-screen kind), a pill to sharpen up my mind, a raft to float upon this ocean, hoping that I'll maybe find an island where my friends are dancing; music blasting, so enchanting, palm trees swaying and people laughing and no one caring what might happen, a 'welcome home' for a broken man, where sky meets sea and sea meets land, I'll cherish and treasure the feeling of sand, between toes stuck on feet barely able to stand, so I'm watching the waves as they surge and retreat, far from peaceful but calming, I drift off to sleep.

When I wake it's all different, the island is gone, I'm surrounded by walls where before there were none, the image has faded but life rumbles on in the same morbid fashion I've been running from, now the feelings are different and hope's burning strong, but I'd still like to know what exactly went wrong, I'd still like to seek out a motive or drive, I'd still like to do more than simply survive, but this sertraline dream, it will keep me alive.
