de-rusting!

de-rusting!

A Poem by Frank Rogers
"

I'm just trying something here - I've been out of action for three years, so this is rusty!

"
something new holds me
pushing my chest and chin up
chin up! they said.
pushing up through wet sand

wet sand too heavy,
heavier than normal.

perhaps seaweed then, pulling
and not pushing. perhaps
seaweed.

pulling under my chin to force
exposure to the surface: swallow
and swallow and swallow sea water
in place of oxygen.

cold stones set into my feet
but there's no master jeweler.

now i'm exposed, the seaweed
won. it grappled with me
finding biological strength.

Sounds to me as if you're keeping the peace and not speaking out, that's what it feels like to me when I keep things inside and don't let them breathe, drowning within ourselves. Didn't quite understand the 'cold stones set into my feet but there's no jeweler'...intriguing poem, pretty good for de-rusting.

I enjoyed this aquatic metaphoric expression about the difficulty of making a hard choice between two mutually exclusive and equally attractive positions, an emotional tug-of-war. I like the crisp crunch of your verses. I've been reading quite a lot of psychological poems on WC lately.

Thank you - I'm interested that you chose the word 'psychological', as I've never thought of poetry .. read more

When your express a state of mind with a metaphor, then you're dealing with a psychological theme.
Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm in no position to judge whether you are rusty or not as I never read your previous work...but...I'd say this is pretty good. I like the first stanza a lot... "chin up! they said" Great stuff.
