Grammatically Speaking

Grammatically Speaking

A Story by Francis Orion

"Hear, here" the professor boomed in disbelief, wondering wear respect for grammar went.

He was at a lost for. (you know what he meant)

"There, their, they're" his wife tried to console him, She said "OMG!"

"The English language isn't what it used to be!"

With that he burst into tears, "See, they've gotten U2!"

"I've no idea what to do!"

"What has become acceptable,"

"is purely irehensible, unconventional, and insufferable!"

"Look" she said, "you gotta get a grip, you be on some trip."

Looking at his once proper southern bell,

All he could muster up in reply was "LOL."

"Much obliged," I said to the cashier.
"What?" she asked.
"Much obliged." My new dentures, sigh, still mashing consonants after half a year.
"I don't get it, whatz zat mean?"
It wasn't the dentures, at least not entirely. "It means thank you, I'm in your debt," I elucidated.
"No you paid it all theirs you're receipt." I heard that spelling despite the impossibility.
"And sir?"
"Hum?"
"Thanks for shopping Walmart."

Ha. Nice one. I actually heard a sullen looking teen girl say the word Lol rather than laugh, and with a straight face too. What next? Will we all just stop talking completely and hold up emojis instead.

This made me lmao.

More seriously, this is a lovely statement about this generation. Having been born into a world that could already text, I too have fallen prey to the number heavy language of teenagers. With any hope it's as much a fad as chokers and porn staches.

Haha, yes indeed. Thank you for reading.
The state of things has changed hasn't it, especially with the written word. I like the intentional shananigans you stirred up in this. You've actually pointed out a big problem with the younger generation. Nicely done.

Oh no! Being raised by an English teacher, reading this hurt! Hah! It was funny! Grammatical errors of this magnitude physically hurt me. No literally, of course; but, ouch! This is a funny piece!
