Wallada

Wallada

A Poem by Franc Rodriguez
"

A tribute to Wallada of Al Andalus.

"
Wallada, eyes of saffire
And flowing flaxen hair
Of gold, men once ador'd;
Comforter of Al Andalus.

Divine and alluring poetess,
Mythical were those words
Of a gentle quill of elegance
And eloquent parchments.

Goddess of the imbued dew
Filling fountains of gardens,
In buoyant scent of jasmines,
By labyrinths of cypress trees.

Mistress of the spectral breath
Of porticos of interlacing pillars,
Guardian of stately courtyards
And noble palaces of grandeur.

Ibn Zaydun searches for thee,
Through trodden alleyways of
The old cobblestones and lore,
Thou shalt wander endlessly.
