Halcyon Ride

Halcyon Ride

A Poem by Fran Marie

Halcyon Ride

Climbing to the sky
with you~ a halcyon ride
enchants my soul

you're cotton candy
blended in marshmallow clouds
my lollypop dream

sun kisses your face
as I lick the salt flavor
off your popcorn lips

high in aqua tones
your eyes gleam like crystal glass
they tell me I'm yours

a warm breeze wafts by
like lemon chiffon filling
fair mystical air

never wanting to
descend~our high sky ride ends
but magic plays on

I had to look up Halcyon, and. I'm glad, I did... as it created for me a greater visual impression on this award winning poem. I don't think it was 'a short dialogue attributed to Plato'. No, much more related to a mythical bird and the Greek myth of Alcyone. "In popular use, it can also mean to harken back to an earlier time, remembered as idyllic," to quote, from Wikipedia.
"Your magic plays on!" and I will remember this piece as idyllic, masterful
and ellegant. Tastey, "like lemon chiffon filling." My favorite!

A quite beautiful compendium of what one can only describe fittingly as 'halcyon' imagery. The verses move on and pass one after another as though being wafted on air like the whimsical chairs of this 'sky ride' itself. And the feeling and notion of what is being conveyed here is rather magical and dream-like. Each verse is individual and has a self-contained lyrical eloquence and colour all its own. I cite the following as my favoured examples of this, however:
"you're cotton candy
blended in marshmellow clouds
my lollypop dream

sun kisses your face
as I lick the salt flavor
off your popcorn lips"
...A very lovely poem indeed.
