`Ghostly Presence`

`Ghostly Presence`

A Poem by Fran Marie

An Image Born

Ghostly Presence

Her ghostly presence

lingers yet today

haunting memories

of her better days

Her majestic voyage

started out with song and glee

now what would have been

can never now be

Her power so swiftly

went full steam ahead

into midnight's icy blue sea

with so many pronounce dead

Rested and rusted she now lies

on a watery dancefloor so deep

once a beauty in every man's eyes

to see her now makes one weep

Rags nor riches matter the least

a judgment is for naught

a captain goes down with his ship

a lesson learned and taught

Her ghostly presence carries on

thru~ a timeless pace

to those who know her mysterious glow

shall never forget her face

"Rested and rusted she now lies
on a watery dancefloor so deep
once a beauty in every man's eyes
to see her now makes one weep"
...Mesmeric lines from a beautiful poem. It evokes not only the tragedy of the ship but the tragedy of mankind. So much is represented by the symbol of the Titanic. The phrase "watery dancefloor" captures so much of that in poignant imagery. One imagines the ballgowns and tuxedos and all the glamour of the age blithely playing out its last moments, and all that perfection destroyed in a few short hours. All the fragility of existence entombed in an iron coffin..
"Rags nor riches matter the least
a judgment is for naught
a captain goes down with his ship
a lesson learned and taught"
A lovingly-conceived piece of art, woven like lace through rhythm and rhyme. A charming and thoughtful dedication to a monumental event.

It's really beautiful.
You present us with a story of the uphill climb and the downhill escalation.
A powerful lesson to share.

Not to mention that the writing is stellar and captivating.
Great one.

Ah, this was a good one too. I read another poem this morning
about this same image. This has a very nice flow to it and sings
almost like a song. A wonderful poem about Titanic and it's sinking
misery. Well done!
