Enamel-roses
sit still, next to
Mother's porcelain teacup
on a white linen
tablecloth draped
on the dining-room buffet
once they were real
and her teacup filled with
fresh brewed tea
on a shining sunlit day.
and if I could give you one thing
It would be a rose for you Mother
on your special day
so long ago it seems
you've passed to
a better place
I've only your photograph
and fond memories of you Mother
left to be found among my dreams.
and If I could give you one thing
It would be a rose for a Rose
for your essence remains
and I remember Mother Dear
you sipping tea in the afternoon,
Arranging flowers daintily, just so,
in vases on the veranda
And I've not forgotton
your smile and sweet laughter's tune
Oh, yes, Mom, if I could give you one thing
it would be the best rose that comes
from this heart of your womb.
