January

January

A Poem by Fran Marie

January, why are you so cruel?
your frigid winds take my breath away
biting my lips blood red
your chilling air is here this day
with a killing frost so gravely dead

January, why are you so brutal?
you have such strength in your grip
spirits are broken by your chill
to take a step, one falls and trips
your cross is all up hill.

January,why are you so harsh?
your frozen raindrops make a soul weep
in misery to wallow
with an icy pain which cuts too deep
'tis a hard pill to swallow.

January,why are you so bitter?
wrapping fingers like an icy web
blizzard snow blows, but does not glitter
only colors a white winter dead.

Beautiful description of winter. Nicely penned.

This month is really cruel...makes me chill 24/7. I have my sinusitis back, hard to take a bath early in the morning, etc.

But a heart which has been broken in this month could really hate this month. Hope this end and let us welcome February. LOL

A simple thought about the month but you presented it excellently. Nice word choice. Splendid!

Thanks so very much; it surely has been a cold Jan, I'm hoping Feb will be a little bit kinder

You're welcome.
This is good poem for today. 15 inches of snow in the last 20 hours. These cold Winter days make us appreciate the hot days of Summer. Always good to read your work. I hope all is well with you.

thanks for reading..Coyote; all is well here ....hope you have a great new year dear friend..
I completely agree. It has been a bitter and cold January for me. One that has me frigid with ice and seing snowflakes blowing in the wind wherever I go. Lets say I'm getting my money's worth out of my snow boots this winter. I'm ready for golden days of August! I love August. Wonderful poem.

I feel the same way about January and the winter in general. I would rather be out in the sun and warmth.

Winter is all those things, the far end of death just waiting for Spring to return and bring back light. Very enjoyable poem, too bad Winter can't answer those questions 'cause I bet a lot of people want to know and animals too! Very nicely done.

Well, a nicely composed and creative piece. I like that way you have taken words that have two meanings, each a descriptive word for winter or cold and started each stanza with a question.

Nice....

What a superbly icy cold poem to January .. every word you say is true, every word wisely put but yet you've brought such a beautiful warmth to me .. the meaning of what the season is now, what it needs to be before the spring creeps slowly in.

Some wonderful phrases: 'your frigid winds take my breath away ~ biting my lips blood red'
