Christmas tonight wears a gown of white snow
as rising winds play tune in gay delight
a plump moon spotlights her dance from afar
In awe I gaze upon a stellar show
my eyes transfixed by this magical sight
as midnight skies display fiery stars
Ah, in slumber's dream, these visions rewind
to winter's wonderland of Christmas night
suddenly transported to where they are
a mystical flight to a distant time
so far
The traditional imagery was depicted beautifully within the Christmas theme. In some aspects, the detail was simple, but it also maintained classy with additional spice of words. Christmas is personified as an elegant maiden of white; bringing the yule tide spirit of the enchanting holiday. The first stanza portrays Christmas during the time she spends on earth; an unseen epitome of what the celebration represents. Within the second stanza, the first line indicates how the spirit maiden returns each year; "in slumber's dream, these visions rewind." The last few lines suggest that the origin is perhaps an enigma. It is possibly the most appealing because the poem does not concentrate on a particular purpose of the holiday whether it is religious or simply a different meaning. In this manner, it enables the poem to be open ended.
Overall, I found it to be traditional yet it still maintained a free living atmosphere.
With all the radiation science has dumped into the atmosphere through thermo-nuclear experiments creating global warming that science now criticizes and rants about, it might not be long before Christmas will be wearing a swimsuit and running the air conditioner. But I prefer your vision to the future science has created for us. Every time I hear the words, "trust the science" I'm tempted to laugh out loud. It's like asking the chickens to trust the fox.

dear friend
beautiful imagery in this dream-like piece. Every holiday bring forth a different mood, depending on your life itself. Some feel sad at this time, lonely, depressed, but your mood is a dream of what a snowy Christmas looks like in your mind's eye.... a stellar show, a magical sight.
Well done Fran.
Best, B
dear Fran Marie... I adore your mystical poem and
the photo is soft and calming as Christmas Eve with
the soft green wings of a fairy who is eternal with blessings
to bestow upon the snow covered mountain villages of the world.
truly, Pat
In this poem, you celebrate the very things that I do, when it comes to the holidays. I'm much more into the many natural marvels that decorate our existence, rather than store-bought displays of gaiety. Your astral descriptions are powerful & compelling . . . transporting me, just as you say in the last few lines! *smile* Fondly, Margie

Feeling optimistic becuz it's the YEAR OF THE DOG!!! *smile*
what an interesting form and rhyme scheme..takes a moment to catch it and get into the rhythm ..seems very open and loose ..the scene is one your poem conjures up from my childhood ..lying all cozy in bed ...tons of snow outside ...they didn't have wind resistant windows in those days so a trickle of winters blast always snuck past ;) pleasant enjoyable read for me..good luck in the contest my friend!
