Frog Poo

Frog Poo

A Poem by Fran Marie

One day while walking I saw a toad

sitting on a log in the middle of the road

with eyes popped out big and wide

and  cheeks puffed up with froggie pride

yes this frog was in happy mode

As I moved closer he hopped away to hide

that's when I saw a pile, so I stepped aside

there lay froggie poo, a great big mess

the reason for his pride, I guess

and toadish grin so wide

Kissing him? no! that would be a cruel test

how could there be a prince hidden in that mess?

so I think I'll pass on kissing toads

that greet you in the middle of roads

so full of frog poo and all the rest!

OMG this is so funny! Great allegory. Nice twist on the Frog Prince theme! I also love the fact that toad was so happy and full of pride after he made a great big mess (which he walked away from). He seems to represent the stereotypical "man to avoid": not very attractive, messes things up, refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. Also, what does the poo represent? An emotional mess? Him making a mess of his life? Someone else's life? Sh---ing on someone? The possibilities are endless. : )

Just a small nit-picky point though: frogs and toads are not the same thing.

Great poem!

Lol. I don't know maybe it's a guy thing, but I saw the title and I just had to check this one out, and I'm glad I did because it really made me laugh! I just like how the humor flows as smoothly as the flow of the poem, and of course there's the symbolism behind it all that is just ingenious.

I love this one, and I know that this one is going into my favorites!

This is just way to funny and precious... but I think the story does carry a certain message... that sometimes you can't get past the ugliness no matter how hard you try, it's a fact of life, LOL

Ha! I'm glad the character in the poem was smart enough to resist the temptation. If only I'd been that smart. I found myself kissing many a poopy frogs before I finally found one who not only didn't revel in his own excrement, but did, in fact, turn out to be a prince.

Very amusing. And I needed that just now. =) Thanks for posting it.

I'm sorry to tell you that I can relate to this cute poem, Fran. I've got flower boxes in my upstairs window. One of the boxes has had a resident toad for two years. I thought the toad was just fat from eating all the insects, but now I have at least one baby toad---and little stacks of poo on the edge of the box. Did you write this one for me? :-) Sharon
