Frog Poo

Frog Poo

A Poem by Fran Marie

One day while walking I saw a toad

sitting on a log in the middle of the road

with eyes popped out big and wide

and  cheeks puffed up with froggie pride

yes this frog was in happy mode

As I moved closer he hopped away to hide

that's when I saw a pile, so I stepped aside

there lay froggie poo, a great big mess

the reason for his pride, I guess

and toadish grin so wide

Kissing him? no! that would be a cruel test

how could there be a prince hidden in that mess?

so I think I'll pass on kissing toads

that greet you in the middle of roads

so full of frog poo and all the rest!

OMG this is so funny! Great allegory. Nice twist on the Frog Prince theme! I also love the fact that toad was so happy and full of pride after he made a great big mess (which he walked away from). He seems to represent the stereotypical "man to avoid": not very attractive, messes things up, refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. Also, what does the poo represent? An emotional mess? Him making a mess of his life? Someone else's life? Sh---ing on someone? The possibilities are endless. : )

Just a small nit-picky point though: frogs and toads are not the same thing.

Great poem!

Haha! Wonderful. I liked the undefined reference to the Frog Prince tale. The picture is too much, it got me laughing before I even read the poem (which made produced several chuckled on its own). Very entertaining. Well done.

Haha.. I too, like everyone else was pulled in by the title (Quite exquisite, I must say!.. A very nice humor sense you have there! Pass some to me, please?

I liked it ^_^ It is cheery, and I like frogs... I enjoy how you approach the question of kissing it, because it was so icky to poo all over...
I also appreciate your rhyming. Far too often when I write poetry, I ignore the whole idea of rhyming...

You know...there have been times in my life where kissing a toad actually didn't seem like such a bad idea...LOL Still, I like the resistance of temptation in this one. I like the soft and subtle, and cleverly fun, way this poem got its point across. Plus, that picture is just so darned cute!
