Unbearable Misery of Life

Unbearable Misery of Life

A Poem by Fran Marie

The unbearable lightness of being depressed
Is a feeling like a hollow shell of emptiness.
It's an unbearable lightness,a feeling so forlorn
wishing the hell you had never been born.

You look in the mirror and see only death.
The unbearable lightness of dark nothingness
The dark depth of a despairing hole you're in
and all you wish for is a quick end.

Some days you cannot make it out of bed
For the unbearable lightness is just as heavy as Lead.
Weighing you down, your spirit has sunk, now vanished
and all your left with is the unbearable damage

To the very core of your soul
A long lament of darkness has control
cutting deep a dark black pit
one from which you cannot get

Escape is not as easy as one might think
and unless you've been there and felt the sink
 you won't understand
how one can lose the will to live, to be

and how this unbearable misery
can make you take a gun to your hand
and end the pain
and rid the unbearable feeling
of being depressed and insane.

Another great poem, you know I am a longstanding fan of your poetry. As someone who suffers from bipolar I can relate so well to this piece. The following lines hit the nail on the head for sure.
Some days you cannot make it out of bed
for the unbearable lightness of dark nothingless
the dark depth of despairing hole you're in
and all you wish for is a quick end

Unbearable lightness of dark nothingless.............I love those words

This is going in my favorites for sure, well done Fran

Awesome litany on the power of depression.
You have crafted an emotionally powerful piece.
I also have to comment on your technique. The variations in your stanzas add to the emotional truth you convey. You use rhyme, but with no regular pattern, and the length and number of lines per verse varies. The very shape and skeleton of your poem subliminally conveys insanity.
Have you considered writing a companion piece on the mania side of bipolar? If so, I can't wait to read it!

Do you have depression? I do and you described it well.

Oh... if only I knew nothing of which you write. I love the photo.... because I'm sure the Goddess is crying at the state of affairs on this planet as well as us who are comiserating in it. An excellent cadence and I love how you speak of the "lightness" of the darkness. You're also right.....those who have never been there cannot understand. Love and Higher Light~~ Cat

It entrances my soul, the words are so beautifully put, and it explains how i feel so well. It spells out exactly how it feels, with the exact feeling only a true person who's felt it would understand.

Goodness! This made me sad to know how deeply some people feel their despair. It spells it out so darkly and hopelessly. Good one! Damn!
