Ivory Tower

Ivory Tower

A Poem by Fran Marie
"

Tovli's Ten Word Contest

"

An achieving artist's
old oil brushed painting called
" Night's Ivory Tower in Conspiracies"
only fetched a daunting Going Nowhere price
at Aubrey's Antique Auction Monday Evening.

A keen contrast from reaching their
anticipated goal of a six-figure sum.

The  artist so dissapointed, welled up

with Chasms of angry emotions, as he fumbled for his

car keys, then sped away full Throttle in his

Corvette!

He wondered if he should ever give Aubrey's

Permission to auction any more of his art work.

So true. So many artists go into that field dreaming of wealth and fame and when it doesn't arrive like hitting a state lottery ticket what do they do but, 'Get angry and speed full throttle away from dissapointment.' I wonder if anyone buying a lottery ticket does that when their number isn't called?
Famous today and gone tomorrow is another message here. I read an excellent historical fiction novel lately called High Spirits by Dianne Salerni (?) and one of the characaters (from real life during the 19th century) is unkown today but was a famous explorere back then. How fast memories and reputatioins fade as time goes by.

Well done!! I liked this story-poem a lot. Just one small note: SP disappointed. This was a clever use of the words. Congratulations.

Very original Fran...and a great way to use the ten words. I can only imagine the disappointment an artist would feel in an event like this. All artists have dreams of recognition, and for a piece of art they worked so hard on to bring such a low price is surely a blow to the ego.

I love that phrase "Going Nowhere price." It's rather discouraging, but it still sounds cool--and its a pretty accurate depiction of what something like that must feel to an aspiring artist.

I liked this poem quite a bit. The ending made me laugh, though I don't know if it was meant to be funny. Good work!
