Gutter Slush

Gutter Slush

A Poem by Fran Marie

Introduced to agony
once again ....
a blue kind of pain
    falling heavily..
so I wrote it down
cursing while
caressing words
like raindrop splatter
in zigzag pattern..
.
words from a discontent pen
     spitting dark ink
utter disdain... spilling
  stress of a poet..
     and oh the snow..
the snow only
last long enough
for an illusion of splendour
coloring  lies white..
when we
know it's really gutter slush
 and the salt melts
 in the wound ..
      .  rehashed and trite
socked it to us; yet again;
so damn funny
    we can't even laugh..

say goodnight Dick

ahahahaha .. well "....goodnight Dick" :)))))))) who among us can not relate to this poets dilemma? we run dry and there is nothing left to squeeze out but perhaps a haiku ;)))))))) i have to stay on the positive side tho ... our topics are vast and limited at the same time .. our "angles" slightly different .. or vastly according to life ... so many thought to be "brilliant" jottings read in the morning are truly and honestly "Gutter Slush" after all; and justly belong in the trash .. well put Fran! so relatable .. uniquely said but universal in the creative writing bin

I can do relate as many of us can. Staring at that white piece of paper urging words or ideas to come to mind so they can be transferred to the paper and then….nothing. And, sometimes those words that do make it are truly gutter slush. Nicely done Fran.

yes we've all been there
thanks so much for reading
much appreciated
Been there, and I'm afraid I fell victim to some four-letter words myself. And the ending was just right. So, "Goodnight!"

That "discontent pen" gets the better of most of us sometimes, I'd say! A poetically descriptive and expressive poem. Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In -- I live in the U.K. but I certainly remember that show! It aired in the 1970's here. I used to love it! I love your poem too!

Thanks Robert
for reviewing ..glad you
enjoyed this one .much appreciated
I believe this is a heart of sadness, frustration at not only the penning but a relationship that may have gone sour... your words really tell it all with some vivid images to make this a strong message in a strong piece of writing. Ir's not only the words but the emotions as well.
Nice!
Best, B

Thanks writergirl I appreciate
your kind words.
Are you handing out fickle finger of fate awards? Well, our snow has been on the ground for three days now and they say we might get a bit more tomorrow. The stores are all sold out of everything. Why? I do not know.

"Goodnight Dick" I miss Rowan and Martin.
Oh, and this poem...the title just grabbed me by the scruff of the neck...
love it.
I wonder though...discontent pen? or discontent heart assuaged by the pen...
I start to think my writes are just rehashed and trite...
and boring after a while.
but I laugh anyway.

Thanks Jacob ...yes I loved laugh in
Rowan and Martin..it was a good show
I get the impression this one wasn't written in a moment of calm reflection. Neither does it show the influence of Jane Austen. The speaker here has just come out on the short end of a failed relationship, and isn't in the mood for soothing words. Reassessment may come later, but now, all romance is "gutter slush."
PS: Good night, Dick.
