3 Scoops of Sugar

3 Scoops of Sugar

A Poem by Fran Marie

My silly muse is back again
she gets inside my head
Visits me at 4 A.M.
While I'm sleeping in my bed.

Come On! Get Up!
I got ideas, Come on and lets go write!
I say 'Are You Crazy?'
It's the middle of the night!

She starts making quite a noise
At me she does pull and tug.
Next thing I know I'm standing up,
with both feet on the rug.

She steers me to the kitchen,
It's nearing the break of dawn,
we stagger to the coffee pot,
and she turns the damn thing on.

With sleepy eyes and tangled hair,
I'm in my robe and gown.
She gives me pen and paper,
to write her message down.

She reminds me of tinkerbell
from that movie 'Peter Pan'
Sprinkling golden words
she flies and lies, and does the best she can.

She's full of glee.
such a playful sprite.
Shes pours my hot coffee,
and tells me what to write.

Hurry Up! I can't stay long!
It's getting rather late!
Puts three scoops of sugar in my cup
and starts her prattle and prate.

I stretch and yawn
and from my cup I took a drink.
and turned around,
then she was gone,
sooner than you think!

Great poem! I love it because I can relate to it SO WELL! I can recall the nights when I've been forced to get up just to write something down, and I recall one time I wrote something in the complete dark and tried my hardest to decipher it in the morning. The non-writers do not get this. I think one of the reasons some of the best things come at night is because while the rest of you shuts down, your brain is completely active and open to everything you suppress during the day.
By the way, there is a beautiful spirit and flow to this poem. I don't write poetry and I don't do much reviewing, so I apologise if I'm not much critical help. But I just wanted to let you know I get this!

"She steers me to the kitchen,

This is my favorite verse made me laugh aloud
I enjoyed this very much
Thanks for the chuckle Ray { Not a Poet }

Haha, I loved this. I can't even count the number of times this has happened to me--inspiration, it would seem, prefers the inconvenient hours of the day to work her magic. There were some lines that seemed a bit off, rhythm wise, but it was all minor--this was really a very cute poem.
