The King of Hollywood

The King of Hollywood

A Poem by Fran Marie
"

ode to Clark Gable

"
Frankly speaking
Mr. Gable you were
one hunk of handsome

Rhett Butler stayed
fixed in our minds
as you walked out
that door

such a dandy chap
In "Gone With the Wind"
a style that was
 de'rigueur' for the era
     then conversely so..
rugged with animal
magnetism in Mogambo

Frankly my dear man..you were
the ultimate leading man
that could play any part...

dashing  or daring

we did give a damn about
                                      Clark Gable..

and he did not win the Oscar for playing Rhett because they said he was just playing himself.
The range of emotion he showed in that film, especially when his daughter died, was amazing and Oscar worthy.
Test Pilot was another favorite of mine, with him, Spencer Tracy and Myrna Loy....
But yes, he had quite the screen presence.

and this poem pays a fine tribute to him and his career. and he had such a strong love for Carole Lombard who died tragically in a plane crash when she was only 33.

I must look him up then as you describe a dandy actor in a very eloquent attractive poetic way but one i haven't heard of as much as Brad Pitt.
My friends think George Clooney is so debonair.
Kudos!
Plz do read and comment my newest poem too titled, "Dandy randy Tom cat"

I recently saw him as Fletcher Christian in "Mutiny on the Bounty." Even without using a British accent, he was convincing.
