We can do so much as a species, like travel to outer space, or calculate the size, mass, and distance of stars. But, we have no answer to questions like what love is, or how and where to find it, and how to keep it alive. This poem could've been written four thousand years ago or yesterday, and it'd be just as relevant and relatable. I think at one time we all thought that we'd be different, and that we'd do our best to fight the "crushing winds." Then, we slowly learn that things on this earth end, no matter what we do. Wisdom is born of that acceptance.

doing well thank you! top o' the mahrnin' to ya .. and the rest of the day as well!!
Perhaps the rain can be what heals us - as it nurtures the earth and all that grows, cleanses us of pain and unrequited love. The wind, being a metaphor of change, can be our saving grace, forcing us to walk forward, and not look back on what's better left in the past. Really Fran, this is quite beautiful.

Illusions have caused more than a few breakups. They are rains and winds that are usually self generated.

Sometimes the finish line is torn from our grasp just as we reach the end.
Like the way in just six lines the reader sees the tragedy enfold.

I can sense the emotions behind this poem. How amazing when you can convey such big thoughts through such less words. The sadness of being apart not only tears down the heart but it weighs alot. Sometimes, relationships are hard to carry, can relate to it.

words;
relationships are torn apart by the vile wind of mistrust and failure to work on them...
instead of being nurtured by gentle watering hands that interlock...

so true Jacob..thanks for your
insightful review..i s o appreciate;
Your poem speaks of those turbulent days of yore -- so few words, yet conjuring up so much more inside your readers. Purple rain is not just a song or an artist . . . it defines an era. Your poem summons the sense of uncontrolled ups and downs that symbolize one's youth (((HUGS)))
