Blanched Roses

Blanched Roses

A Poem by Fran Marie

the sun has caught me crying
more than I care to admit
it seems so obvious now
that you don't care and
rather forget..how once
our love flourished without
 any regrets

               and
raindrops had caught me
 smiling even when my
feelings were low
as long as you were near
and I knew you loved me so

                   now
winter has come calling
and covered grounds lie
in pristine snow and its
caught me numb and
unfeeling; telling me what
I already know

                 so much
    like lonely pale roses
long ago have lost their glow
have caught me lost and forlorn
the pattern repeats itself within myself
knowing you're really gone

and I'm left alone to carry on

I really the beginning line, "the sun has caught me crying more than I care to admit.", I always think it's super cliche for people to use rain or cloudy/winter-y weather as a metaphor for being sad. You turn it on its head by pointing out that you can be sad and the rest of the world/the people around you might not be experiencing that. It's almost more isolating with your sadness when things around you are cheerful, like you're caught in an emotional Black Mirror kind of episode. And I love the line, "raindrops had caught me smiling." Even when you're sad and the weather isn't sunny, you're happy, but emotionally low at the same time. love that you captured the complexities of emotions so succinctly and beautifully, without emotional self-indulgence.

You know, I almost forgotten how great a poetess you are! This is so definitely my kind of poem. So elegant, beautiful and romantic in the most wonderful way. Each stanza makes you want to read the next and it does make you sad because it ends, but at the same time happy because it is such fabulous poem!
So very well written my dear Fran, a true jewel.
Huge well done from me!!!!
Stay happy :-)))

glad for the visit .i s o appreciate it;
The loss of love is one of the hardest traumas to get over. It might actually be impossible to get over it, and one has to learn to live with it. It does get better in time, but there are so many triggers that can take one down memory lane.

Your poem is very honest, descriptive and relatable.

I so appreciate your reviews on my poetry
Sadness. But do keep expressing yourself. We all have those kinds of feelings inside us. It feels good to let it out. It feels good to know someone is listening to you. Have a sweet day. Jeff
