Evening Showers

Evening Showers

A Poem by Fran Marie

penned letters written
from you to me
 those bygone years
lie close to my heart

each word dances anew
as absorbing thoughts
 of warm embraces and
sun-touched kisses

lift my spirits high amid
the drifting clouds
filling my memory
 feeling your presence

the mere thought of you
reads into my soul
I wanted you here with me always
but fate's hand was unkind

the plans we had made
withered away the day
you died and part of me
went with you

 a fulfilling future faded
and all I have left are
these love letters for me
 to digest

            on this rainy night

This is a lovely poem Fran written with so much love behind it. I used to keep every love letter that was written to me by old exs. I treasured them a lot. My one regret was not taking them with me when I moved out of my parents home. I always thought someday I would go back to get them but I never did. It is a regret of mine. Thank you for this bittersweet poem.

Wow, this is a palpably sad poem, very riveting and well written. I also see the depth of the love the speaker has for the deceased. And the ending provides the closure to the mood of the moment and the scene portrayed. Well done.

I had similar letters...not from a loved one who died, but one who lived countries away...
distance was the killer...but there is still so much romance on those pages now...and still a scent
that makes my heart beat a bit faster.
