'A violet
by a mossy stone'
so gentle
now you sleep
I cannot grasp
the stars so cold
and no more can i weep
so delicate
my violet dear
life's battles
have taken you under
So rest in peace
A sleep, so deep
in Winter's slumber
softly the butterflies
fluttered in Summer
kissing new,another day
then Aurtumn's breeze
blew cool, the winds
taking you away
but, oh, sweet Violet
you were Spring to me
so happy,warm and gay
full of life and magic dance
'til you went away
my violet now lies 'neath
death's tombstone
gathering moss new and green
and I still can't reach
the cold distant stars
and 'Tis I, who is
left alone, to dream
… the acceptance of loss in quiet solitude marks this verse … the beautifully affectionate endearment “my violet” … brings to life an affection poignant and sincere … intense and overwhelming … “I cannot grasp the stars so cold” … is extremely intricate and yet simple poetry … “a sleep, so deep, in Winter’s slumber” … is again an amazing expression of that permanent slumber we all know is death … “the winds taking you away” … is a moving and mesmerizing expression … the reference to seasons and the comparison with life expressing ravishing yet simple profundity with elegance … “you were Spring to me” … is a breathtakingly beautiful expression and absolutely unforgettable … this last stanza is such an intense expression of sadness that it moves one beyond measure … the last line especially is sheer genius … and brings out the pain and isolation … while at the same time … the inevitability of dreams … it is no doubt excruciatingly painful to dream after a loved one has gone forever …
my violet now lies 'neath
death's tombstone
gathering moss new and green
and I still can't reach
the cold distant stars
and 'Tis I, who is
left alone, to dream
... a beautifully written poem … it’s all heart … pure and pristine … and it just flows and flows with a beautiful rhythm … exceptionally good rhyming …
What a beautiful write!
I felt like I was from another time reading your poem it kept my attention throughout and the words you used to describe in Winters Slumber. Loved it!
