SpoilsA Poem by Fran MarieContest Write
The stench of the smoky city mixed with smog so thick filled the air Sinister shadows of the night appeared amidst the urban decay Where misguided souls came to play.
Across town another robbery takes place and a clerk lies dead in a pool of blood
Three women were just raped, a newborn babe found in a dumpster, such a disgrace,. In the city, there is no pity, nor brotherly love.
It's just another day of chaos all around gangs of young hoodlums beating up little old men just for kicks Hustlers and hookers on each corner selling their wares and turning tricks.
The drugies, the pushers;society's ills share a common thread do some crack, some booze and pills Get stoned out of their head.
Nothing stands in the way of urban decay because it's too damn hard to feel the pain, So they stay,it's easier that way In the spoils of the city they remain.
Pregnant teens who lost their dreams single mothers can't provide for their child The homeless too without any shoes stuck in the depths of despair. Man, no body cares! It's a city without pity run wild.
The complexity of dwellers vary, yet all are lonely and lost their way It's such a sad tale of a dirty city In the spoils of urban decay.
They think it's useless to pray thinking God doesn't hear their plight so they live the only way they know how and the road remains wide into darkness they ride they simply give up the fight.
They're hopeless and helpless in a world of poverty dwelling in the spoils of a city's dim decaying light. © 2010 Fran Marie |
