Love child

Love child

A Poem by Fran Marie

Blue-orange flames dance high in the fireplace
as old love letters burn the secrets known
locked away, hidden, our love a disgrace
concealed in darkness,of love sins there sown
fraught with forbidden fruit,angel's despair
who would forgive ? an ill-fated affair
bore a treasure fair, of love's secret kept
condemned lovers were we, who would forget?
A myriad questions, ev'ryone asked
avoiding sad -dark truths~ with vague replys
answers in written proof, now lie in ash
revealed in grey smoke, a love secret dies

Tho~ parted by distance, and time has flown
Our love child,our secret,shall ne'er be known

Awesome opening imagery, with the flames doing double-duty -- both heightening & destroying feelings. Your message shows us many faces of such an illicit affair, but most of all, the need for secrecy, thus the opening & the ending are nicely tied together to hide all that's inside. Very interesting use of "love child" (a term I haven't heard in a couple decades!)

Thank you for entering my competition.

Your words really spoke to me. I could see the flames, the burning love letters and feel the sadness with each line.

I particularly liked:
our love a disgrace
concealed in darkness

There was just something beautiful in those carefully chosen words.

When you say, "Our love child, our secret, shall ne'er be known" it sounds like a child was conceived and born from the affair. Awesome poem with all of its description and poetic feel.
