Past Echoes

Past Echoes

A Poem by Fran Marie

All the great poets are gone
whose works did please,
writing of places and things
of long ago,
Poems that sang
soft as the murmuring breeze
of loves which they did know.

Such pleasure reading of Poe
and his beautiful `Annabel Lee`
His love for her gentle and soft
as the murmuring breeze
from their sea, the beautiful sea

.

Their words penned on paper
our eye still reads
Frost, Shelley,Keats and more
Past Poetry soft as the murmuring breeze
passes thru~ present's door

'Alas, such poets have passed away
'Tis true,that they're all dead
but, their lines live on today
echoeing, soft murmurs,of what they said

So Salutations! great poets of yesteryear
and thank you for all you gave
poetry like your's is written,no more,nowhere
for when you went, so went it, to a poet's grave

Ah, yes, the greats. Shakespeare among them. I must say, though, that some of the great poets of our generation have turned to music. There is so much greatness in Dylan, for example... at least to my poorly trained ear. I think they are here... it is just that we do not live in the age of poetry as they did then. Poets are not glorified. Sigh. Blessings.

Very nice. I think that great poets and artists are never really taken serious until after their death. I have never heard of a famous poet or artist that is alive. And it's really sad. And that's also when their work becomes worth something. Yet while they were alive they were starving poor.

Did you see the movie Shakespeare In Love ? It was about how Romeo and Juliet came to be written. It was really good. I don't know if it was based on fact or not though.

I love this Fran, it's a beautiful tribute.

Who couldn't pay tribute to Poe? This was a very nice piece about the loss of some greats but I think there is still great poetry written right here on WC, everyday :)

Amen.....I like the homages you have done here...I like Poe....he's macabre without being overtly graphic...I also think it's nice of you to note your inspirations!
