All the great poets are gone
whose works did please,
writing of places and things
of long ago,
Poems that sang
soft as the murmuring breeze
of loves which they did know.
Such pleasure reading of Poe
and his beautiful `Annabel Lee`
His love for her gentle and soft
as the murmuring breeze
from their sea, the beautiful sea
.
Their words penned on paper
our eye still reads
Frost, Shelley,Keats and more
Past Poetry soft as the murmuring breeze
passes thru~ present's door
'Alas, such poets have passed away
'Tis true,that they're all dead
but, their lines live on today
echoeing, soft murmurs,of what they said
So Salutations! great poets of yesteryear
and thank you for all you gave
poetry like your's is written,no more,nowhere
for when you went, so went it, to a poet's grave
Ah, yes, the greats. Shakespeare among them. I must say, though, that some of the great poets of our generation have turned to music. There is so much greatness in Dylan, for example... at least to my poorly trained ear. I think they are here... it is just that we do not live in the age of poetry as they did then. Poets are not glorified. Sigh. Blessings.
fran, love your work, written with classic feel itself,
your thoughts flow like soft whispers upon the readers
thoughts, capturing desire by idolizing greatness with
respect to legacy, your talent stands apart, much peace, mike
I liked that you did this tribute to the writers that you admire. This just my opinion and only my opinion. I respect them for their writings and the power of their words but at the same time I find them a little boring and also the reason poetry has nearly died as an appreciated art form. People do understand them half the time and don't like made to feel dumb. I hear from alot of people that read my work or hear me do a reading come up and say wow you know I never really liked poetry that much but your words really spoke to me. I took a great honor in that. So I guess I am saying yes they have passed on but I think the time had come for them to go as well. But once again just my opinion.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe there were more poets then than there are now?
Time flew slower then in seasons rather than time clocks.
We had time to look around.
Now we have the internet and thoughts flow instantly around our world
Poets are everywhere. Were they then?
I agree with the guy down below in the reviews..I loved their work to..especially those written in Olde English..but there are just as many great poets today only there are so many of us it is harder to get recognized..Some writers like the woman who wrote "Gone With The Wind" that was her only big one..I personally believe some of the greatest voices, poets, writers, musicians etc all over the world havent't been heard as that is not their main passsion..It might just be a past time. So they have not been heard by the total world..A stranger came to our church and sang and I was in awe of her voice..it sent shivers up and down my arms, her ambition..to be a helpmate to her Evangelist husband..not record..our loss..but the churches gain..God bless and thank you for the inspiring write and asking me to read it..God bless Valentine
