Mandolin's Melody

Mandolin's Melody

A Poem by Fran Marie
"

`sonnet`

"

I'll play thee a sonnet with mandolin

softly massage your brow of sad sorrow

absorb anguish so that joy may begin

bringing bright new light into each 'morrow

I'll sing thee mandolin's melody

sweetest songs of love, each note to behold

chasing gray clouds away, too far to see

kiss thy lips warm, when winter's breath breathes cold

O' hear my love song enchanting this day

with poetry's whispered words to thy ear

of summer's breeze and lavender's bouquet

sunshine and laughter our hearts may endear

I'll play thee a sonnet meant for just you

mandolin's melody with love so true

I love the word crafting in the first line, introducing your well-crafted sonnet as a musical creation (which it very much is) . . . you're SHOWING as well as TELLING this combo idea between writing & making music. I appreciate that your gently elevated language is still clear & easy to follow, not using convoluted language like some sonnets do. Good word choices add much imagery thru-out.

Tis said that musical instruments have hearts, that played with skill and finesse their emotions can play the score with greater feeling than the composer originally intended. The mandolin here in your beautiful post certainly plays with this reader's feelings.. tis true romanticism without frippery but, love, for real, real love.

Many thanks, for reading..so appriciated..
Beautifully captured. Every time I hear a sonnet, I am transported back into a realm of other times, where words nd language were so effortlessly elegant to read, but probably contemplated more. A time when beauty and fragility of language ruled, and not a lol in sight.
Superb.

Poetry's whispered words to thy ear, and the mandolin speaks. One of my favorite instruments when listening to""" REAL""""" OLD COUNTRY MUSIC is the Mandolin. One cannot hear the separate instruments today. Nice write. Kathie

Soft, tender and kind words led the reader to good places and thoughts.
"I'll sing thee mandolin's melody
sweetest songs of love, each note to behold
chasing gray clouds away, too far to see
kiss thy lips warm, when winter's breath breathes cold"
When the song of love is sang to us. A kind paradise, never forgotten. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome my dear friend.
I just loved this poem...it has a very unique, old-worldly charm to it. The wording and rhyming are impeccable and done with much elegance. The mandolin is a beautiful instrument and music is a great accompaniment to love. My heartfelt compliments on this unforgettable writing, Fran Marie...
