I like the idea of reconciling differences, becoming a unified couple. The two lovers in your poem come a long way from the first stanza. From bitter fights to selfless unity.
Our lovers are most often our deepest friends and confidants, guardians against the injuries of the world. Your lines "a sun-filled destiny/meant for two lovers/to share" are a great way to describe that union. We are so much more when we overcome the differences in our relationships.
"Hoping to find answers to ease the heartache
this agonizing pain and anger felt
and turn the sharper edge of love's fate
into soft surrender"
When we pass a certain point in anger. If no-one surrender. No-one will win. Wisdom in these words. I learn from tripping in negative words. Silence is better than negative words. Thank you dear Poet for the excellent poetry.

You are welcome. Always a pleasure to read your words.
emotion overrules rationality a lot of the time (at least for me) and makes that searching for those answers even more difficult.. we all want that "sun-filled destiny" shared with the one that resides in our heart.. real life isn't all sunshine and rainbows as you highlight here, but with patience, communication, and faith--then hopefully it can have bright, warm rays that encompass you both the majority of it.. another beautiful write Fran..
On a side note, stumbled a little in the beginning, not sure if it is supposed to be "darkened", but flowed better in my head that way :)
