The buddy alarm sounds

     One minute passes

     Two...

My messenger stands at attention

     I sit...

My fingers hover above the keyboard

    I wait...

The third minute crawls on by

I hold my breath

I check my connection

    Four...

No message has been sent yet

I turn down the love songs streaming out of the speakers

In case a message "ding" comes through

    Five minutes...

    Now six...
