Return to Brook CityA Story by world gone madjust a story in progressHave you ever run so fast that you thought your life was passing you by? Well that was what I was doing right now. I was running for my life from the two people I thought I could trust but they turned on me and now they were trying to kill me for what I guard from people that want to use it for their own evil ways. It’s a hard life I lead but I was destined to lead it. Let’s go back to where it all started and then maybe what I’m telling you will make a little sense. “Hailey, time to wake up or you’ll be late for school!” My mom yelled from the hallway. “Just a couple more minutes,” I grumbled into my pillow. But my little sister came into the room and pulled my blankets off of me and ran out the door with them. As you can tell I have a pretty normal life. I have a sister, a mom, and a house. But what wasn’t normal about my life was hiding under my bed. I got up and started pulling on some pants and a shirt when I heard a buzzing sound. “No I’m not bringing you to school with me,” I sighed. More buzzing. “Cleven, please speak normally for once and none of the buzzing.” “But you can still understand me when I’m, as you call it, buzzing,” Cleven whined. I bet your wondering who Cleven is. Well he’s who I was guarding and he is the most annoying drafter ever. Oh sorry you don’t know what that is do you? Well a drafter is a creature that can change any situation to what the person that is nearest it wishes it to end up. That is why Cleven is the most dangerous creature ever to exist. Cleven watched me as I put my school stuff into my backpack and put it onto my back. “So you’re still not brining me with you,” Cleven sighed. “Cleven you know you have to stay here for your own safety,” I explained. Even though he won’t be noticed if he came with me because he’s only twelve inches and he can make himself invisible whenever he wants to. He has large blue eyes and pointy ears and hair everywhere except his knees and elbows and his palms. And he wears a blue robe with gold embroidery. “But please I’ll stay invisible for the whole day,” “Cleven no I told you this is for your own safety,” I sighed, “and the rest of us,” As I was heading out of my room Cleven jumped onto my shoulder and gave me the puppy dog face. “Cleven you know that won’t work,” “Please,” he begged “Fine you can come but stay hidden and stay quite no distracting me in class with stupid questions okay,” I mumbled. Cleven nodded and disappeared. I walked down stairs and kissed my mom good bye and got my bike out of the garage and biked my way toward the dreaded high school of my nightmares. The only good thing about Gregorian high is my friends. Grace and Nathaniel are the two most wonderful people in the world. But I guess I have to say that because their my best friends. Nathaniel and Grace are twins. They have the same color hair and eyes. Blonde hair and blue eyes. And they are both the same height. “Hey Hailey,” Nathaniel greeted me with a smile. His smile can light up my whole day. Maybe even the world. His teeth are perfectly straight and dazzlingly white. “Hey you guys,” I mumbled. I’m not really a morning person. “Did you get that homework finished for Mr. Zeds,” Grace asked. “No, I had a busy weekend.” “No you didn’t,” “Grace did you say that?” I asked. “No, why?” “What about you?” I asked looking at Nathaniel. “No. Are you okay Hailey you look a little pale,” “I’m fine just excuse me for a minute,” I said as I ran toward the bathroom. I checked if any one else was in there and opened my backpack. “Cleven you show yourself immediately!” But there was no answer. “Cleven?” Again no answer. Now I was panicking. Where was Cleven? He was supposed to stay right near me. Then I heard a scream coming from next door and knew that was where Cleven had gone. Cause to some people he looks like a rat. Wait what am I saying he looks like a rat to everybody except to me because I’m his guardian. I ran into the classroom next door where I heard the screams and saw Cleven laughing while the science teacher was trying to hit him with a broom. “Get out of here you stupid rat!” “Wait Mr. Delda that’s my pet rat!” I yelled. Every one turned to look at me as if I was the weirdest person on the planet. And I would have to agree with them. Two minutes past till somebody broke the awkward silence. “Ms. Kingsley, you know the rules,” Mr. Delda sighed, “no pets allowed in school.” “Yes sir. I’ll take him to the office and call my mom,” I walked out of the classroom with Cleven in my hands. Cleven was still laughing but stopped when I glared down at him. “You know that wasn’t funny,” I told him, “I thought I told you to stay close to me and not to cause trouble.” “But I just wanted to have a little fun,” he whined, “I’ve been stuck in your room for ages.”
